Famille Chasselay Fleurie III 2019
Fleurie, Beaujolais Villages, Beaujolais, Burgundy, FranceThe Chasselay family can trace their lineage in the village of Chatillon d'Azergues, in southern Bojo’s Pierres Dorees, back to 1418. The region, the land of the golden stones, is named for the local ochre-hued limestone, traditionally quarried for buildings. Fabien Chasselay, his sister Claire, and their father Jean-Gilles have farmed their 15 acres in the Pierres Dorees organically since 2000, with the average vine age of 55 years. This Fleurie comes from three tiny plots: Chapelle des Bois, Champagne, and Levratière, hence the III in the name. Some of the vines are 115 years old here. This was 80% destemmed, and native fermented on skins for 15 days before one year in barrels. Floral and perfumed, with red florals, cherry blossoms, and fragrant plum on a medium, finely textured palate. Tannins are long and lithe, and acidity is crunchy.
