Badia a Coltibuono Chianti Classico 2018

Tuscany, ItalyThe Badia CC is grown at Gaiole in Chianti, in the southeastern part of the appellation. It is a certified organic wine that is a 90/10 mix of sangiovese with indigenous grapes. It fermented in stainless steel with natural yeast and aged 12 months in French and Austrian casks of varying sizes. The colour is sangiovese light (think pinot), but the flavours are concentrated and ripe. Sweet cherry with ripe plums and earthy mineral undercurrents all come together in perfect balance and stay that way through an excellent finish. The tannins are dense, as they can be from sangiovese, but fine grained as they disappear into the wine. This wine always ages effortlessly through 7-10 years so don’t be afraid to cellar it.
