Viñedo Chadwick 2018

Puente Alto, Valle del Maipo, Region del Valle Central, ChileViñedo Chadwick takes you to the exalted Puente Alto region, now more or less on the southern limits of greater Santiago. The wine is a tribute to Alfonso Chadwick, honouring the long tradition of family winemaking with expertise in Chile's historical home of cabernet. The vintage is superb and likely will be as good if not better than 2015. Plenty of winter rain, an early warm spring and summer with few if any heat spikes left the fruit in perfect condition. Viñedo Chadwick is essentially a solo cabernet sauvignon with only three percent petit verdot for spice. It spends 22 months in 80 percent new French oak barrels, of which 20 percent were the larger foudres to reduce the oak influence. The colour is opaque with a savoury, open, elegant nose of cassis, black cherries, and black raspberry. The palate, sweet blueberry pie, blackberries, bitter chocolate, and perfect spicing swim along a silky bed packed full of dense, sweet tannins. This wine has a big future and will only improve if possible in the cellar for the next two decades. It is one of the best wines ever made by longtime winemaker Francisco Baettig.Tasted: 24 March 2021Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
