Antinori Badia A Passignano Chianti Classico Gran Selezione 2017

Tuscany, ItalyBadia, a Passignano Gran Selezione, is produced exclusively from the best lots of sangiovese coming out of the Badia Passignano Vineyard and a region noted for its outstanding wine production since the year 1000. The vineyards sit at 300 meters above sea level on soils rich in limestone with a fair amount of clay. For what it is worth, the wine is aged in the historic cellars under the Badia (abbey) of Passignano that dates back to the 10th century. Look for a smoky, earthy, bloody, red-fruited wine with flecks of violets and a surprisingly rich palate. I love the long, savoury, finessed flavours of dried cherries, thyme, and dense, tightly wound, fine grained tannins. One of the best I have tasted in the modern age. A perfect wine for bistecca Fiorentina, or cellar through 2030.Tasted: 19 March 2021Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
