Covert Farms Zinfandel Grand Reserve 2018

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe grapes are certified organic and come off the winery's Coyote Block Vineyard just on the south edge of McIntyre Bluff in Oliver. It was planted in 2007-2008 at 420 metres. Zinfandel is a rare bird in BC, but this wine has grown from a curiosity to an interesting addition to the Covert Farms lineup. The attack is soft, lush, and fruity, in that zinfandel way, but with plenty of savoury, desert scrub underpinnings to support the blackberry, black plum, peppery fruit. What puts it above many simple California editions is its acidity and freshness. There are some tannins to shed, but it is getting close to the real deal, and the vines will only get better as they put on age through the next few decades. Serve now with grilled lamb chops or sausages to tame its youthful tannins.Tasted: 17 December 2020Tasted by: Prices:
