Claus Preisinger Blaufrankisch Kalkstein 2018

AustriaClaus Preisinger's winery is right outside the small town of Gols, on the northeast corner of the Neusiedlersee. He farms 19 hectares split between about 64 different plots, and has been fully biodynamic since 2008. Though quite young, Claus already has 20+ vintages under his belt, and is a darling of the natural wine scene in Austria. This natural blaufrankisch comes from 30ish year old vines sourced from numerous vineyards rich in kalkstein (chalk and limestone). After a native ferment in stainless, this rested 6 months in large neutral barrels before bottling without fining or filtration and with minimal sulphur. Juicy and vibrant, with a swing of reduction upon opening that opens into twiny dark plum, wild cassis, tart mulberry, tight balsamic to a peppery, brisk finish. Acidity is elevated, and tannins are slight. Enjoy this natty, fresh red with a chill.Tasted: 14 January 2021Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
