Torres Mas La Plana 2016

Penedès, Catalunya (Catalonia Cataluña), SpainFrom the heart of Penedès, subzone of Turons de Vilafranca, Mas la Plana is spread acorss 29 hallowed hectares of ten plots on two levels. The lower level has loamy soils, whereas the higher level is predominantly marlstone. The vines are old, planted in the 1970s, and have adapted well to the ever-warming Mediterranean climate. Today, the Mas La Plana estate is a natural ecosystem, benefitting from regenerative viticulture and teaming with life. So too is the wine, teaming with life. This is not your typical cabernet sauvignon. Instead, it takes its cue from Bordeaux and offers complexity and concentration without losing its balance. It is fermented in stainless and oak foudres and spends 18 months in French oak barrels, of which 65 percent were new. Its juicy, fleshy nature draws you into the wine, with rich black cherry, tobacco, and a tremendous savoury undercurrent that permeates. This is the real deal. Drink or hold through the next decade or beyond.Tasted: 28 April 2022Tasted by: Prices:
