Taboadella 1255 Encruzado Reserva 2018

Dão, Northern Portugal, PortugalTaboadella is an exciting new Dão project from the Amorim family (of cork domination). The family is no stranger to winemaking, however, owing Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo in the Douro, as well as the large Aldea de Cima estate in the Alentejo, where they have been planting vines over the past few years. From Dão's granitic soils, this encruzado aged 8 months in a 50/50 split of new French oak and stainless. The wood is fiercely present, bracketing and striating this wine. Fortunately, the soils and grape fight to keep this fresh, with that granitic grip creating interest on the palate. Pear, green apple, lemon, cream float underneath, with ample toasty spices through the lengthy, warming finish. A powerful wine that needs time in the cellar to relax.Tasted: 16 December 2020Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
