Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, Canada"60" is an homage to the 60 goals Montreal Canadian Guy Lafleur (The Flower) scored in 1978 and the 60 months of ageing given this traditional method sparkler on its lees. The wine resulted from a partnership with Lafleur and Canadian vintners Ann Sperling and Peter Gamble. They put together a re-blend for the superstar Montreal Canadian and now, five years later, the vintage BC blanc de blancs made at Sperling Vineyards with 100 percent pinot blanc, from 25-year-old vines, has been released. As if Lafleur was streaking down his wing, the wine is electric. The nose is an intriguing mix of fresh-cut lemon, pears and dried herbs with an underlying cushion of complex, mature, creamy lees notes. It all continues on the palate with intense citrus flavours and creamy lees textures with a touch of toast and wash of minerality that finishes long with persistent lemon highlights. Ready to drink, but you can still age this through 2023.
