Villa Trasqua Chianti Classico 2016

Tuscany, ItalyThis organic Chianti Classico comes from Castellina in Chianti, in the southwest part of the appellation. Trasqua is loaded on a high, windswept plateau, with gentle hills of galestro, clay, and silts. Initially planted in the 1960's, the Dutch / Swiss family who purchased the property in 2001 did a thorough soil analysis of the 120ha property, dividing 60ha up into 13 plots, each matched to the most suitable grape variety. This is a blend of 80% sangiovese, 10% merlot, 10% cabernet sauvignon, fermented in stainless before one year in large Slavonian oak barrels. Plush and plump, with some brooding black fruit, dusty gravels, a green herbal edge, and ample ferrous / bloody notes woven throughout. Ample tannins are furry at this stage, requiring a hearty pasta in meat sauce to tame.Tasted: 10 September 2020Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
