Penfolds Shiraz Kalimna Bin 28 2018

South Australia, AustraliaOnce a single vineyard wine, Kalimna has long been a blend of shiraz from across South Australia. In 2018 the grapes were sourced from Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Padthaway, Wrattonbully, Fleurieu, Robe, Mt Lofty Ranges, Adelaide Hills, Langhorne Creek before spending a year in used American oak hogsheads. The nose is awash in plummy fruit dappled in brown spice and almond. The attack is super lush and inviting thanks to a rift of savoury dried herbs and surprisingly bright acidity. Australia, you have been busy. Dark berry persists throughout until a streak of creamy milk chocolate finishes off the wine. The tannins are dense and sweet and will only prolong the wine's life without interrupting its drinkability. It's less chiselled and glossier in 2018, which will only broaden its appeal. Great value and mostly ready to drink.Tasted: 29 September 2020Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
