Penfolds Cabernet Sauvignon Bin 407 2018

South Australia, AustraliaGago refers to the 407 upon reflection and respectfully as "not unlike a youthful and sprightly Bordeaux Right Bank Merlot sourced off clay – all red fruits, cranberry." Indeed, the wine is bright and the acid firm and forward, giving it substantial vitality in the glass. The fruit is multi-regional from Coonawarra, Padthaway, Wrattonbully, McLaren Vale, Barossa Valley, and Robe. It spends one year in French oak (21% new) and American oak (9% new) hogsheads. The attack begins with a cedary savoury edge screaming cabernet with a twist of persimmon. The savoury notes continue through the black plummy fruit and the bitter chocolate walnut finish. It is an impressive cabernet at a very young age. Precise and form fitting for the long haul; cellar through 2030 before you start to appraise its real value. The fruit comes from several sources. By percentage, it's Coonawarra 32, Padthaway 27, Wrattonbully 7, Barossa Valley 5, Robe 5, and it goes on. Warm autumn weather ensured phenological ripeness, bringing well-rounded tannins and tremendous varietal flavour. An exceptional vintage for cabernet sauvignon at all levels.Tasted: 29 September 2020Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
