Lieu Dit Chenin Blanc 2017

Santa Ynez Valley, Santa Barbara County, Central Coast, California, United StatesLieu Dit is a partnership garagiste operation between two friends: Justin Railsback, sommelier; and Justin Willett, winemaker. They came together to produce low intervention wines in cooler Santa Barbara County, using only Loire Valley grapes. From Santa Ynez, this was native fermented in both tank and barrel, before moving to neutral French oak for 7 months on lees, prior to a short stint in stainless before bottling. The captures chenin's wet stone sleekness, woven through subtle quince, bosc pear, downy lees, flake salts, and honeysuckle. There's a delicate vibrato on the finish that lures back, as does the welcome 12% alcohol. Smart, bright, and vibrant, this is New California, thankfully.Tasted: 11 September 2020Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
