Lake Country, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaBlock 26 is a field blend inspired by the winery’s Block 26 planting at Carrs Landing, made up of pinot gris, riesling, and gewürztraminer. The block is picked once, and all three varieties are cofermented, something more akin to the Old World of wine than the new, but it is a technique we encourage in pursuit of upping your game in the vineyard. It is tiring just a bit a year down the road, but it remains a rich mix of floral, fruity, bitter, mineral, savoury flavours on the mid-palate and dry in the finish. Pinot gris, riesling, and gewürztraminer are co-picked and co-fermented. Crisp and tight and green, with celery, green apple, tart lemon on a crunchy, medium bodied palate, with sharp and high acidity, finishing with a snap. The block is picked once, and all three varieties are co-fermented. The result is like a little bit of lightning or electricity in the bottle. Look for peach, apricot, red apple, nectarine, pear, and melon rind. Floral, bitter, mineral, savoury, and fruity on the mid-palate and dry in the finish, and you have a winner.
