Keremeos, Similkameen Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThis is about as skinny as it gets, but it is not in the Chablis style either. Look for tightly wound bright lemon notes that dominate the palate, with a touch of desert scrub and pear in the back end. This will need some creamy seafood or pasta to fight off the austerity. Clos du Soleil Winemaker's Series La Cote Vineyard Chardonnay 2019

Keremeos, Similkameen Valley, British Columbia, CanadaFrom their estate La Côte Vineyard, in transition to certified organic, this was whole cluster pressed and fermented in French puncheons, where it remained for MLF and 8 months' maturity, with occasional bâtonnage. Though the wood used isn't new, it is present, with a tight, stalky/reedy framework housing steely pear, yellow apple, melon, pineapple rind, lemon pulp. There's an earthy lees lining the base that lingers on the stunted finish. Youthful and clunky at this stage, so best to wait a while before cracking.Tasted: 15 August 2020Tasted by: Prices:

Keremeos, Similkameen Valley, British Columbia, CanadaFrom La Côte Vineyard, which is in transition to organic certification, this was whole cluster pressed and then fermented and aged for eight months in French oak puncheons. It's a lean, crisp style of chardonnay that's all about lemony fruit with a dab of spicy oak and kernel. It's elegant, clean, and refreshing at only 12.8% abv, but lacking some complexity.
