Okanagan Falls, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaWith vines now in the 12-13-year-old range, the BM sauvignon is settling in, and looking pleasantly varietal and Okanagan-like. At 8000 vines per hectare, the high-density plantings are yielding excellent fruit. The wine is fermented in stainless steel (8%), foudres (75%), and finally, in oak barriques (17%). It all ages for five months on its lees without stirring. I love the freshness here, and the bright citrus nose and palate. Green melon, wet stones, and salty minerality round out a very good bottle of sauvignon blanc. Fresh seafood, including shellfish, all works here as well as pasta in a cream sauce. Okanagan Falls, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaAgain, one of Canada's top sauvignon blancs, and at an insanely affordable price, the 2019 comes from 12-13 year old Okanagan Falls estate vines. After a native ferment in a mix of stainless, French oak, and foudre, this remained on fine lees with no bâtonnage, for 5 months. Bedded with river stones, threaded with lemon, and lined with herbal lees, this streams along the palate with an alluring salinity to a lingering, lightly smokey crystalline finish. Blue Mountain Estate Cuvée Sauvignon Blanc 2019

Okanagan Falls, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThis is more about place than grape, which is too rarely the case for sauvignon blanc. Don’t expect exaggerated tropical passion fruit or a pungent herbaceousness. Rather, this is led by bright citrus and a chalky minerality that are balanced by a deft touch of oak and lees. That lees influence also gives this some added richness, while still retaining zesty acidity and only clocking in at 12% abv. It’s a finessed, restrained style that seriously overdelivers at this price point. Not that I’d expect anything else from Blue Mountain as of late.
