Paddy Borthwick Chardonnay 2018

Wairarapa, North Island, New ZealandFrom Wairarapa's Gladstone subregion and own-rooted chardonnay planted in 1997 on stony, alluvial soils, this was whole berry pressed and transferred to French puncheons for a native ferment, with little MLF, and 10 months in French oak puncheons (20% new) before blending and bottling. Rich, plump, and full, with ample oak presence buffering lemon curd, vanilla, nougat and baked nectarines. This has a bump of grapefruit pith acidity to move the heft through the lingering finish. This is a powerful, textural, cool climate chardy, built for rich shellfish or seafood dishes, or luxuriously creamy green veg.Tasted: 16 July 2020Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
