Le Vieux Pin Syrah Cuvée Violette 2018
Oliver, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaCuvée Violette started as a fun, early-drinking style with prominent floral notes, but it is evolving with the vines and the winemaker. The latest is a more luxurious, meatier style but with a soft texture. Winemaker Severine Pinte likes to coferment one percent viognier with her south Okanagan syrah to keep a sense of elegance and mystery. From here, the wine is aged ten months in bare concrete and large oak foudre before an additional half a year in small neutral French barriques. I love the floral red fruit aromas and the dark plum, smoke and pepper. All of this and only 13.5 percent alcohol.
