French Door Pinot Noir 2018

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaFrench Door is a new family-owned winery located on the Black Sage Bench, with 10 acres under vine (across 13 varieties), planted in the early 2000s. They have employed Pascal Madevon as a winemaker. This fruit comes off a contract vineyard in Summerland. This whole berry pinot noir contained 10% stems and underwent a month-long stint on skins before being pressed off to French barrels. There is nothing shy (and little pinotesque) about this giant wine, from its hefty, distinctively shaped bottle, to its boggling 15% alcohol, to its intensely potent wallop of fruit and wood. A dense plum, cherry, kirsch, dark chocolate is wrapped with plush, tuggy, cedar scented tannins, and finishes with a hefty fistful of baking spice. Amazing to think this comes from the cooler slopes of Summerland. Pinot for Zin drinkers, perhaps?Tasted: 18 July 2020Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
