Casale del Giglio Mater Matuta 2016

Lazio, ItalyMater Matuta is derived from the ancient goddess of the dawn, protectress of fertility and birth. Her cult extended throughout central Italy, and the famous temple of the ancient city of Satricum, situated close to Le Ferriere in the Province of Latina, was dedicated to her. This blend of 85/15 syrah/petit verdot saw the parts fermented separately prior to moving into new oak barrels, where they remained for two years prior to blending. After the blend, this was bottled, and aged for another year prior to release. Full, ripe, and dense with super ripe blackberry, cassis, baked plum, cherry. Tannins are sticky and chewy, reflective of the ripeness, though by now, quite well integrated. Partner with richly sauced rich meat.Tasted: 17 July 2020Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
