Casale del Giglio Faro Della Guardia Biancolella 2019

Lazio, ItalyA native of Campania, the biancolella grape was introduced to the Island of Ponza from the Island of Ischia during the 18th century, when the city was ruled by the Bourbon monarchs. Today in Lazio, the grape is authorized exclusively on Ponza, where it grows at the base of a sheer sea cliff surmounted by the imposing lighthouse ‘Il Faro della Guardia', from which the wine takes its name. After a native ferment in stainless, this rested on lees for 8 months prior to bottling. Piercing grapefruit acidity drives this slender wine forward, skipping along river stones waxed with white honey, quince, grapefruit, lemon verbena, fresh thyme and sage, and grapefruit pith. Effortlessly marine fresh, this rings with salinity, which remains on the finish. Delish now, and over the next few years.Tasted: 20 July 2020Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
