Villa Wolf Pinot Noir 2017

Pfalz, GermanyYou typically associate German pinot noir (or spätburgunder) with Baden, but here we are in Pfalz, just north of Alsace. However, to this palate, it still tastes definitely German in style, led by smoky, meaty notes that are almost reminiscent of a light-bodied syrah. There’s also a good degree of ripeness, with dark cherry fruit that’s backed by a relatively firm, muscular structure. It makes for a solid introduction to German pinot noir, and overdelivers on its modest price tag. Give this a slight chill and serve with a casual Tuesday night barbecue at home.Tasted: 25 August 2020Tasted by: Prices:
