Painted Rock Red Icon 2017

Skaha Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaCan 2017 be better than in 2016? I think so. The less is more perspective, less power, less spice, and less intensity has allowed this Bordeaux blend to show a sense of elegance and depth we haven't seen before. It is more Euro than most anything but North America's best red blends. It is aged 18 months in 30 percent new oak. The mix is 38 percent merlot and 21 percent cabernet franc, followed by 20/11/8/2 petit verdot, cabernet sauvignon, malbec, and syrah. Again the texture is measured and elegant. The syrah seems out of place, but alas, in the end, it works. Not a lot of Meritage can match the elegance and depth here, but they should try.Tasted: 14 June 2020Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
