Painted Rock Chardonnay 2018

Skaha Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaUpping the acidity and pulling back some of the ripe fruit has brought this wine back into the serious chardonnay category. I'm not sure it matters since the wine is long sold out most years before I even get to sample it. It was a cooler vintage, and the two clones 76 and 548 appear to have enjoyed the growing season, yielding a fresher, brighter wine than in 2018. Some 80 percent is aged six months in French oak, 44% new, and the other 20 percent was aged in stainless steel. Only 29% of the wine underwent an acid softening malolactic fermentation, which explains its renewed liveliness. The style is a mix of saline/citrus flavours and creamy textures, with a whiff of oven-fresh bread, peaches, and a mineral lined finished. Drink or hold through 2023.Tasted: 14 June 2020Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
