Boschendal 1685 Chardonnay 2018

Western Cape, South AfricaNo big change here. Boschendal was founded in 1685, making it one of the oldest and grandest Cape estates. The chardonnay fruit is a selection of grapes from Stellenbosch, Elgin, and the Boschendal farm proper in Franschhoek. The fermentation begins in stainless steel. After a couple of Baume, 70 percent is moved into French oak (only 12 percent new) to finish fermenting before ageing ten months on its lees where it is stirred regularly. The style is creamy but very bright in a Euro-style New World chardonnay. Fresh green apple, sliced pineapple, and honey walk a delicate citrus path through the finish. A cleansing chardonnay perfect for serving with crab, lobster, or creamy pasta dishes. Ready to drink.Tasted: 30 May 2020Tasted by: Prices:
