Bartier Bros. Sémillon 2019

Oliver, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaCrisp, dry, summer white wine is exemplified by this pure and racy sémillon from the gifted hands of winemaker Michael Bartier. Flowers and fruit mesh attractively in the aromas with acacia and elderflower, custard apple, peach, and citrus. A note of beeswax and honey signals a very expressive sémillon, and a subtle herbal fragrance is a clear south Okanagan stamp. Dry and light-bodied, the flavours are terrifically focused with stone fruit, pear and lemon first, salty minerals to follow, and a botanical nip on the finish. The texture is waxy lending a fullsome feel to the wine, but 12.2% and zesty, fruit-coated acidity keep it streamlined. Fresh and energetic, artfully farmed sémillon grapes from the Cerquiera Vineyard on the Black Sage Terrace are steel fermented simply to let the site speak. Native yeast and lees-aged, you can sense a wildness in the wine. Very complete, impeccably balanced, and a little more dimension than the excellent 2018. All you need is a picnic blanket under dappled light, local camembert cheese and a crusty baguette. Or you could cellar for 5 years and be rewarded with toasty, honeyed complexity.Tasted: 20 July 2020Tasted by: Prices:
