Elio Sandri Perno Barolo 2014

Piedmont, ItalyCascina Disa in Monforte d'Alba was a settlement of Monks of the Abbey of Breme at the beginning of the 15th century, and even then was used for wine production. Since 1965 it has become the heart of the Sandri family winery, that continues the ancient wine-growing traditions of the area. Elio now makes his wines with the highest respect for nature and for tradition, eschewing industrial methods. A characteristic orange tint, this Barolo opens with dried herbs, earl grey tea along a leathery palate, wrapping a core still very much alive with wild cherry, perfumed rose petals, thyme, salted sage, and bergamot. Tannins are ample, but worn softened with 6 years of age, giving a gentle tug to the palate, drawing this to a lingering ferrous close. A beaut.Tasted: 04 May 2020Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
