Tantalus Riesling Lab Hard Pressings Experiment #09 2019

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaRiesling Lab is a celebration of experimentation. Each year the cellar crew at Tantalus is allowed to geek out over their much loved riesling grapes. The ninth release features the "hard pressings" of all blocks, kept separate and fermented wild in old oak puncheons and barriques. A portion of the juice was reserved for all the winemaking interns to trial five distinct yeast strains and three different acidity levels. Kudos to the Savics family and winemaker David Patterson for allowing such outrageously necessary behaviour in the Okanagan. The wine presents off dry with a full flavoured palate of baked apples, banana chips, intense honey, and sweet mandarin, all with a light coating of spice. What it lacks in elegance it more than makes up for in character, and a fun easy-sipping style. No need to wait on this one. Drink now with a favourite spicy curry.
