Tantalus Pinot Noir Reserve 2017

East Kelowna Slopes, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThis elegant pinot noir pays a fitting tribute to the legacy of its label artist, Dempsey Bob. A small-lot reserve releases, this pours much lighter and finer in the glass than the other Tantalus pinots. Built on their estate block of Dijon clone 667, this also includes older plantings of clones 115 and 37, the latter the first time these joyous younger vines have been included in the cuvée. Partial whole bunch, and all native fermented, this spent 16 months in French oak (30% new) before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. Forest berries, moss, and smoked sage are woven through raspberry, dark cherry, violet, wild mushroom, to a lingering, warming, subtle black pepper finish. Tannins are fine and tuggy, hugging this to the lightly astringent finish. Drinking very well now, benefitting from a decant, but will reward with some time in cellar.Tasted: 28 April 2020Tasted by: Prices:
