Vasse Felix Filius Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

Margaret River, Western Australia, AustraliaFilius is The Son of the Vasse Felix Cabernet Sauvignon, designed for earlier drinking based on its fruit selection, but coming from the same vineyards that end up in the classic Felix cabernet. The colour is medium-dark garnet with a purple hue, leading to notes of fresh blackcurrant, earthy, savoury dark cherry, mint, coffee, and pepper. Tannins are light and dusty and easily assimilated by any substantial protein dish. It was a cool year, so there is plenty of acidity. It is finished off in French oak for one year (10% new). In 2017 the mix is 85 percent cabernet sauvignon, 11 percent malbec and four percent petit verdot, plumping up the leaner structural nature of cabernet sauvignon. Hold or drink, depending on the situation.Tasted: 16 March 2020Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
