Escorihuela 1884 The President's Blend 2015

Mendoza, ArgentinaA blend of 85 percent malbec, 10 percent cabernet sauvignon, and 5 percent syrah, this was aged for 13 months in brand new French and American oak. Like you may expect for some presidents, it’s lavish in style but also not the most nuanced. The oak is front and centre with notes of coconut, bitter coffee, and smoke. Initially a bit reductive, the fruit is ripe and sweet, with a hint of raisonation. It’s a full throttle style that’s heavy on flavour, with soft, plush tannins that evoke long hang-time, and the 14.5% abv to prove it. It’s well made, and I like the underlying fruit, but the oak doesn't quite meld.Tasted: 01 March 2020Tasted by: Geoffrey Moss MWPrices:
