Pet Matt Landrusco 2019

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaYour eyes aren't playing tricks on you. That is a sketch of 2019's Best Sommelier in BC (albeit with a far more biodynamically curled head of hair), Matt Landry. As part of Landry's honours, he was able to make a wine of his choosing through the OCP Wine Campus program, which launched in 2011. Landry, along with OCP winemaker Matt Dumayne, made this pet-nat from Oliver touriga nacional, fermented in concrete and disgorged late last December, with no dosage. 1000 bottles were made, available by allocation only, with proceeds going towards the Dr. Peter Aids Foundation. Pouring a inky lambrusco-esque hue, this had a 5 day cold soak, and was then pressed off and fermented like a white wine. As gutsy in the mouth as it is by hue, with muddled wild blackberry, dark plum, crushed stone, and black wine gums. There's a refreshing black liquorice salinity on the final that counters the blip of RS, and keeps me coming back, intrigued. This fun project will benefit from a brisk chill and a plate of cured meats.Tasted: 12 February 2020Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
