Gérard Bertrand Tautavel Hommage aux Vignerons 2010

Tautavel, Côtes du Roussillon Villages, Roussillon, Sud de France, FranceFrom the cellar. Tautavel is a village in the warmer, spoon-shaped, sunshine-catching Roussillon, cooled by the tramontine winds. Pebbly, limestone-rich terraces and south-east facing hillsides house the old vine grenache featured here. This was fermented in cement vats before a year in new French oak barrels. Pouring a deep mahogany, this is dark and brooding, with leathery black cherry, dried raspberry and strawberry, savoury dried mushrooms, dried tea leaves, and worn leather. Tannins are worn soft and malleable, still easily supporting the equally aged 15 degree fruit. Fine mineral salts dust the lingering finish. This is still very much alive 10 years on, even for all its mass and sunshine. Wines like this are testament to the staying power of old vines, and the touch of Bertrand's biodynamic practices.Tasted: 15 February 2020Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
