Domaine des Ronces Florale 2015

Côtes du Jura, Jura, FranceGeorges Mazier founded Domaine des Ronces in Jura's Sud Revermont, AC Côtes du Jura, in 1950. It passed to his son Michel in 1996, who converted the estate to organic (certified 2013) and biodynamic (Demeter certified 2016), the latter when his son Kevin took control of the 6 ha property. Florale is old vine chardonnay, from the first chardonnay vines planted on the property, now gnarled old bushes, on marl soils. It was native-fermented in stainless, where it rests for one year before bottling with minimal sulphur. This is made in the ouillé (filled up) style, with limited oxygen contact. Broken stone, light white smoke, earthy lees are countered with green apple, hints of elderflower and meadow grass, on a medium-bodied palate based on buttery brioche, and trailing off with a kiss of vanilla. Lovely balance; quite elegant. It is a stonking gateway Jura, accessible yet ringing with typicity of the south, and a glimpse of what's to come when you crank the Jura chardy volume.Tasted: 16 February 2020Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
