Vasse Felix Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

Margaret River, Western Australia, AustraliaThis was the first red wine to be made in Margaret River back in 1972, and it has been made every year since. In 2014, it’s a blend of 90/8/1/1 cabernet sauvignon, malbec, petit verdot, and merlot, which was fermented by indigenous yeasts and then aged in French oak for 18 months (40 percent new) prior to bottling. Don’t let the 14.5% abv fool you into thinking this is a full-throttle style of cabernet. It has a classic, restrained Margaret River nose of red currant, fresh herbs, graphite, and cedar. You’d almost think you were in Bordeaux if it weren’t for the eucalyptus and some smoky oak. It’s medium bodied with juicy acidity and fine, grainy tannins. It’s certainly not the most concentrated example, but that just adds to its drinkability. Well done.Tasted: 04 January 2020Tasted by: Geoffrey Moss MWPrices:
