Rowen Red Wine 2016

Sonoma County, California, United StatesIn the pioneering spirit of Sonoma and Rodney Strong, winemaker Justin Seidenfeld has created Rowen, a red blend uniquely tied to the high altitude, red, volcanic-based soils of Cooley Ranch at elevations ranging from 500 to 2,040 feet in northeastern Sonoma County. The vineyards are above the fog line and Cooley warms up during harvest to allow for hotter growing temperatures and extra tannin development. The blend is 57/20/20/3/ cabernet sauvignon, malbec, syrah, and viognier that is co-fermented with the syrah to charge the floral notes. The attack is smooth and lush with notes of black cherries, blackberries and sweet vanilla. Seriously easy-sipping. Enjoy this wine now with sharp cheeses and charcuterie, grilled filet mignon, and chocolate. It has an immediate drinkability, yet all in the more refreshing, restrained, Sonoma style. The winery suggests braised lamb shanks would be an excellent match, and I say bring them on.Tasted: 23 January 2020Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
