Rodney Strong Pinot Noir Reserve 2016
Russian River, Sonoma County, California, United StatesThe 2016 RS Reserve is back to a mix of individually selected lots from across the Russian River Valley. The nose is a melange of ripe cherries and brown spices, and the attack is soft, round and silky. The acidity is perfectly proportioned with the fruit. The Reserve Pinot is made at the RS small lot winemaking facility, by winemaker Greg Morthole. Several techniques are used to get the most out of the fruit, including cluster pre-sorting, berry sorting, cold-soaking, and thermal maceration. The final pinot is aged sur lie, with monthly bâtonnage to increase fullness throughout the creamy textures. The earthy, spicy notes fill in the cracks of what is an impressive drop of pinot noir.
