Rodney Strong Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley 2016

Alexander Valley, Sonoma County, California, United StatesRodney Strong was a fan of Alexander Valley cabernet sauvignon as early as 1971, when he first planted Alexander’s Crown. Today the winery farms four different estate vineyards on the benches and hillsides of the Alexander Valley to explore all the valley has for terroir. 2016 was pretty much an ideal growing season with an average amount of rain over winter, and one big storm in early March that topped off soil moisture. Spring was pleasant and average temperatures continued through summer with only the occasional heat spike that cabernet can handle, and frankly loves. The warm temperatures continued through the fall, which meant harvest started about a week earlier than average. The nose is super fragrant mixing cedar, intense black plum, cassis, and black pepper. The dried fig and chewy tannins give the wine a powerful underbelly, despite 18 months of barrel ageing. Think rich cheeses, charcuterie, or a favourite cut of steak grilled on the barbecue.Tasted: 18 January 2020Tasted by: Prices:
