Quails' Gate Old Vines Foch 2017

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaFrom Quails' Gate's Osoyoos Vineyard, this was fermented and aged in a combination of neutral French and American oak for 20 months. (The Reserve version has a substantial kick of new oak, in comparison.) The style comes across slightly forced, arguably more zinfandel-like than foch, with dense, jammy dark fruits and cola. Medium-full bodied, this is quite soft and round, with grainy tannins and a slightly stunted, bitter finish from the 14.5% abv. I like this slightly chilled as it brings out a bit more freshness, but it's a solid winter red nonetheless. Bring out the burgers.Tasted: 15 January 2020Tasted by: Geoffrey Moss MWPrices:
