Penfolds Cabernet Sauvignon Bin 407 2017

South Australia, AustraliaInspired by big brother 707, this earlier-accessable cabernet takes fruit from Padthaway, McLaren Vale, Barossa Valley, Coonawarra and Wrattonbully, and ages it in French (18% new) and American oak hogsheads (14% new). Structural and compact with dense blackberry, dark cherry, graphite, and star anise, finishing with a bitter cherry / branch note. There's a lovely brooding textural element that teems underneath, reminding more of Tuscany than Bordeaux, and veering more towards restraint than South Oz regional blends are want to do. Tannins are long and firm, ideally situated to house the weighty 14.5 degree palate. Drinking beautifully now, and still will reward with time in cellar.Tasted: 18 January 2020Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
