Scar of the Sea Seven Leagues Chardonnay 2017

Santa Maria Valley, Santa Barbara County, Central Coast, California, United StatesFriends Michael Brughelli and Micky Giugni source fruit from various vineyards in the Central Coast for their boutique minimal-intervention label Scar of the Sea. This fresh chardy comes from three blocks within Santa Maria's famed Bien Nacido Vineyard. Each block is picked and native fermented separately in a neutral barrel, where it goes through a full malolactic fermentation before ageing in barrel and steel for 17 months. The extended lees contact is evident, padding the slight palate and supporting subtly sweet lemon verbena, chalk, and stones. Tight, energetic, and mineral-driven, this finishes long in the mouth. Impressive. 150 cases.Tasted: 18 December 2019Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
