Scar of the Sea Bien Nacido Vineyard Block Q Old Vine Pinot Noir 2016

Santa Maria Valley, Santa Barbara County, Central Coast, California, United StatesFriends Michael Brughelli and Micky Giugni source fruit from various vineyards in the Central Coast for their boutique minimal-intervention label Scar of the Sea. The famed Bien Nacido Vineyard was planted to Pinot Noir in 1973, and today is one of the oldest pinot noir sites in America. Sweet raspberry, black plum, strawberry, dark earth, broken stones, and nutmeg spice fill the generous Pommard-evident palate, one sharpened by the 30% whole bunch. This was native fermented after 4 days of cold soak, and aged 16 months in wood. Tannins are soft and forgiving, well supportive of the plump fruit, while fresh Santa Maria Valley acidities keep this fresh and at a welcome 13 degrees.Tasted: 18 December 2019Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
