Podere 414 Morellino di Scansano 2017

Tuscany, ItalyOwned by Simone Castelli, Podere 414 is a certified organic estate with 13ha of vines, situated in western Tuscany, straddling a river near the town of Scansano. From the region's very stony soils, this morellino (sangiovese), is splashed with colorino, ciliegiolo, alicante, and syrah. Each variety is vinified separately, before the blend goes into two year old barriques for one year, followed by additional bottle age prior to release. Dried violets, rose petals, Tuscan garrigue, dark earth entice into this full-bodied red, one layered with lusty, grippy blackberry, dark cherry, and blueberry notes. Tannins are ample, fine, and sticky, housing a plush palate bedded with stones. There's a lovely rise of acidity here that lifts the heft. Drinking beautifully now, especially with truffled risotto, or wild boar.Tasted: 18 December 2019Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
