Covert Farms Amicitia 2016

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaAmicitia is Latin for friends, an apt name for the 2016 vintage of this friendly, welcoming red blend. This year Gene Covert's cepage is merlot, cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, malbec, petit verdot and syrah, from Coyote Block vineyard, planted between 2006-2009, and at a welcome 420m altitude. This organic wine was barrel-aged 14 months before release. The ripe, dark black fruit is helped by the altitude, freshening the heft and weight of smoked blackberries, dark cherries, and baked raspberries. There's a peppery undercurrent that lingers on the finish and silky tannins that up the friendliness factor. This is a drinkable giant red but would be even more exciting if picked earlier, allowing the fresh, pure fruit to shine.Tasted: 07 February 2020Tasted by: Prices:
