Moon Curser Dead of the Night 2017

Osoyoos, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaLook for a viscous, black cherry colour with flamboyant aromas of sweet violet, kirsch cherries, fine chocolate and cardamom spices. It's a beguiling nose that had me swirling and repeatedly sniffing, chasing a distinct grilled rosemary note—pleasing flavours of plums, currants, mint chocolate and a citrus oil aspect. The acid is boosted, the tannins are very fine-grained and almost creamy, with a slick burnish of smoky oak on a mouth-drying, warm finish. Full-bodied and saturated with powerful ripe fruit, this drinks well now with robust chilli and herbed cornbread, or a grilled, blackened steak. Ageing for another five years is natural; a peek at the tech sheet shows the blend to be 50/50 syrah and tannat grown on the eastern slopes of Osoyoos Bench, aged in 32% new French oak. Admirable job imbuing two strong grape personalities with South Okanagan character.Tasted: 06 November 2019Tasted by: DJ KearneyPrices:
