Quinta Da Costa Do Pinhão Peladosa 2015

Cima Corga, Douro Valley, Northern Portugal, PortugalThis wine shows old vine Douro reds are not all about power and show. This is a field blend of 80-90 year old vines in the Cima Corgo, including Tinta Roriz, Tinta da Carvalha, Tinto da Barca and Alicante Bouschet, with approximately 20 other indigenous grapes all from a single schistous site 300-350m. 60% whole cluster, and native fermented in open cement, this spent 21 months in 500L French barrels for 21 months. Fresh and mineral-led, with layers of sapid plum, wild raspberry, scrubby rock rose resins, graphite, worn leather, and wax. Tannins are ample, but fine, and well situated to support the old vines. The finish lingers with a dusting of pink peppercorns. Beautiful minerality and vibrancy from front to back, this is a wine drinking lovely now, and will reward with cellar time.Tasted: 14 October 2019Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
