Lakeside Cellars Portage Red 2016

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe Dhaliwal family purchased their 14-hectare Osoyoos lakeshore property in 2015 and set about renovating the older vineyards (from 1998) and decrepit heritage building, formerly part of the Haynes homestead of 1882 — the first commercial orchard in the Okanagan. The attack and styling are ripe, with sweet oak everywhere. The blend is a 44/32/24 mix of cabernet franc, cabernet sauvignon, and merlot from the family's vineyards in Osoyoos and on the Golden Mile. It spent 24 months in French and American oak before release — perfumed musk, lusty violets, vanilla all season the full, plump palate. Tannins are wood shellacked and slightly ragged but work on housing the full plumpness. Not shy and ready for drinking now, especially with a BBQ. A little less of everything next time out and this wine has the potential to wow.Tasted: 28 October 2019Tasted by: Treve Ring & Anthony GismondiPrices:
