La Clape, Coteaux du Languedoc, Languedoc, Sud de France, FranceL'Hospitalitas is a coastal vineyard heavily influenced by the Mediterranean Sea. Those sea breezes and a bit of altitude keep the site cooler than the norm, allowing for an orderly ripening. In the Middle Ages, l'Hospitalitas was a place of refuge for pilgrims, protected from fierce winds and the punishing summer sun by a high cliff where the terroirs, white limestone and red marl, converge. These soils, at the foot of the cliff, and the classic red Mediterranean soils formed on blueish grey compact limestone are home to this syrah and mourvèdre blend. Accented by black pepper, the intense black fruit nose has a dusting of garrigue, making it thoroughly Mediterranean. The palate is a meaty, savoury, sausage, black olive affair that lingers forever.
