Gérard Bertrand Château de la Soujeole Grand Vin Malepère Rouge 2017

Côtes de la Malperès, Languedoc, Sud de France, FranceSoujeole is set in the appellation Malepère, not far from the iconic medieval city of Carcassonne. Like most of Bertrand's sites, it is farmed biodynamically, and the Grand Vin is the top label of the estate. It is a blend of cabernet franc, merlot, and malbec, all fermented and aged separately for 12 months. The palate is a vibrant version of rich black fruits sprinkled with chocolate, coffee, and mocha amidst dense but rounded tannins, and with zero herbaceous notes. Again there is a freshness to this Mediterranean Bordeaux-styled red that made this wine highly attractive even at such a young age.
