Vanessa Vineyard Cabernet Franc 2016

Cawston, Similkameen Valley, British Columbia, CanadaIt’s not every day that a 15.5% alcohol cabernet franc crosses your desk. This is 100 percent estate grown cabernet franc from Vanessa Vineyard, a tremendously rocky site on the west-facing slopes of the Similkameen Valley. After fermentation, the wine is aged for 20 months in American and French oak. There’s no shortage of colour; it pours an inky, deep ruby. In fact, there’s no shortage of, well, anything. There’s gobs of American oak and jammy black fruits, richness, and power. The texture is plush on the mid-palate, with just a slight graininess to the tannins, leading to a hot, bitter finish. In short, a wine for the “big red” crowd that can often be averse to cabernet franc. Only 170 cases produced.Tasted: 22 September 2019Tasted by: Geoffrey Moss MWPrices:
